The Maipo Canyon Ridge one of the pins walks is to visit the Natural Monument (MN) The purple, with an area of 3009 hectares. It was established in 1974 and is located southwest of Santiago, immediately east of the town of Baños Morales.

The place is run by Conaf and its name is due to the dark color of the rock of the hill. Its altitude ranges between 1,750 and 5060 meters above the sea ice has a temperate climate, with average daily temperature variation between 10 and 25 º C from December to March. Precipitation in the form of rain and snow, are concentrated between April and September and in winter the snow reached 2.8 m, which prevents the stay in that period.

Flora:
The Andean sclerophyllous shrubs are one of its main features, together with the high Andean steppe of the Cordillera de Santiago, which dominates much of the landscape. The most common species are up to 1,900 m: molle, olivillos of the range, white grass, grass cloth, seven shirts, chilli and foxtail. Animals:

History and Culture:
From a historical standpoint, the Andean area where is located the MN was one of the places visited by nomadic indigenous people who frequented these areas cordilleranos up into the eighteenth century. The chiquillanes related to the Pehuenches primitive activity were as hunting, gathering wild fruits and plants and summer grazing.

Mountaineering and Climbing:
the southwest side of Cerro El Morado, with hanging glacier, ice climbing permits. Another alternative for lovers of mountaineering is climbing the Mirador del Morado (4,320 m).

Trekking:
there is a hiking trail to Glacier Trail (6 km, 1 hour 30 min). It begins at the sector Panimávida and culminates in the tongue of the glacier San Francisco. Suitable for all age without physical problems. This tour allows observation of the natural features of the sector, its scenic beauty, geomorphology, geology, flora and fauna. The final destination is the San Francisco glacier and purple, which gave shape to the micro-basin Morales.
