DESCRIPTION
Length:
Male: 45-50 cm
Female: 50-55

Male (normal phase): Up slaty gray. Below white with small dark gray stripes to the sides. Primary coverts black and dark gray. White with black subterminal band and fine dark gray transverse stripes tail. Horny beak and yellow wax. Yellow legs; long black nails.

Female (normal phase): Grey apizarrado off it is darker than the male; also from the base of the neck to the upper back of rufous color. Usually present in the lower chest and abdomen black transverse stripes. Like the male tail.

Melánicas comprises phases (to black) which, in some cases combined with eritrismo (ferruginous). For example, there are cases where the bird is fully apizarrada gray, only the inside of the white wings. Or completely dark brown. Or ferruginous dark coffee. Or ferruginous chest and abdomen and dark pants.

These different phases of color make identify the Harrier is sometimes a bit difficult as it can be confused with other species, such as the Peuco (Parabuteo unicinctus) or red-tailed Harrier (Buteo ventralis).

One way is by looking at the tail, from the second year and at any stage, is always white with a black subterminal broadband across.
