The Botanical Garden of the UACh was created in 1955 by the first Rector and one of the founders of the Austral University of Chile, Mr. Eduardo Morales Miranda, with the aim of transforming it into the referent of the endemic flora of the Country and a sample of the flora of the world.

With more than 950 species, it has several sections: Garden of Mirtáceas, of Proteáceas, communities of Central Chile, Magallánico Forest, medicinal plants, Chilean Conifers and the Valdivian Forest.

Their collections of living plants are ordered according to scientific criteria, under appropriate farming systems and individually registered and classified. Currently we have launched a development strategy that will transform the Botanical Garden UACh into a center for research, education and culture; facilitating the transfer of knowledge to the different social actors; and positioning the Universidad Austral de Chile as a pioneer in the development of a complex Botanical Garden in the country.
