The Laguna Nimez Reserve was created in 1986. It is less than 1000 m. from El Calafate. This reserve was created with the objective of conserving the natural wealth of the area.

There are around 80 species of birds that give the visitor a beautiful show thanks to the beauty, color and grace that characterizes them. Some of the best known are the flamingos, the cauquenes, the black-necked swans, the bandurrias, the teros and the ducks, among others. In addition, the avifauna is accompanied by the vegetation of the Patagonian steppe region.
