The specimens of the European subspecies (Felis silvestris silvestris) have a thicker hair coat and the tail more populated and wider than that of the domestic cat, with its black tip and at least two wide black strips next to it.

Its general appearance is that of a very robust domestic tabby cat, with the proportionally larger head and the shorter and thicker tail, rounded at the tip.
