https://parcocolosseo.it/area/foro-romano/ The Roman Forum was the neuralgic center of the city, now it would be the equivalent of the main square of the city, where the government, market and church institutions are located.
At the end of the Empire, the Roman Forum was forgotten and little by little it was buried. Although the Forum's existence and location were already known in the 16th century, it was not until the 20th century when the excavations were carried out.
The last monument built in the Forum was the Seal Column. During the Middle Ages, although the memory of the Roman Forum persisted, the buildings were mostly buried under rubble and their location, the area between the Capitoline Hill and the Colosseum, was designated Campo Vaccinio.
