The town of San Gabriel, is in the Caj├│n del Maipo Valley at 1300 meters above sea level and 30 km from San Jos├ę de Maipo.
It is characterized by its imposing landscape dominated by the mountain. Here, the last Carabineros checkpoint is located before the border; there is also commerce and several restaurants.
San Gabriel emerged as a small hamlet born of livestock activities and the exploitation of quarries and mines. In this locality it is possible to observe in the rocky slopes of the hills the "Cipr├ęs de la Cordillera", one of the few existing confieras in the country.
