Information about Guayaquil
Guayaquil is the second largest and most populous city in the Republic of Ecuador. It has almost 2.7 million inhabitants.
The city is the cantonal head of the homonymous canton and the capital of the province of Guayas. Located on the Pacific Ocean coast in the coastal region of Ecuador, the east of the city is on the banks of the Guayas River, about 20 kilometers from its mouth in the Pacific Ocean
Today, Guayaquil, the economic capital of Ecuador is the main port of the country, considered one of the most important in the world, because its location and infrastructure provides facilities for international maritime trade.
Founded definitively in 1547 as a shipyard and commercial port in the service of the Spanish Crown, such as "Santiago de Guayaquil", after several other attempts of foundation, it has served as a main point in the economy of the nation.It has hosted major revolutions and uprisings in the course of history, being the first Ecuadorian city to definitively obtain its independence from Spain in 1820.
