The African Wolf is native to northern and northeastern Africa, where it is distributed from Morocco to Egypt, through Senegal, Algeria, Libya, northern Nigeria, Chad and Tanzania.
It is a common species in the plains and steppe areas, including those with little available water; is that this canid is very well adapted to the semi-desert ecosystem.

It has a wide, varied and opportunistic diet, preying on invertebrates, reptiles, birds and mammals of various sizes, from small rodents to gazelle pups, although carrion or fruit is not wasted.
