Maria Desatadora de Nós is one of the oldest devotions of Nossa Senhora, once it started in Germany, in 1700, when a miraculous painting inspired by a meditation of Saint Irineu was found, portraying the Virgin. Subsequently, he was placed in the Church of S. Peter am Perlack, in Augsburg.

Miracles spread throughout Europe and Argentina, however, the sanctuaries were limited to an altar dedicated to Her. The capela of the city of Búzios was erected and dedicated exclusively to Nossa Senhora Desatadora dos Nós, different from other churches in Brazil and in the world.
