Cultural Hike and Lunch to El Sabino Grande

The 4-mile loop trail begins and ends at Armonia EcoVilla y Ranchito, a local permaculture farm. We will come to know the charm of the villages of Los Martinez and La Huerta. The trail crosses a footbridge over the Rio Laja and snakes through the Carisso forest.

The tour is filled with research and stories acquired from the locals about legends and lore, the railroad, the Presa Allende, and the time Pancho Villa trained his army in the canyon. The exploring and fascinating day of storytelling while hiking ends with a delicious and filling enchilada lunch. Dietary accommodations are available upon booking.

Itinerary

Come to know the spirit of Ahuhete, or the old man of the water. El Sabino Grande is estimated to be between 450-500 years old and is one of the thickest tree trunks in Mexico. This beautiful tree grows to a massive size if near water, and this one is fed by a natural spring. It is a Montezuma Cypress, each part of the tree has a medicinal use and it is the national tree of Mexico. This tree is truly a spectacular sight.

A delicious, traditional Mexican comida lunch will be waiting for us after the tour at a local permaculture farm. Lunch is chicken or cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, salsa and salad. Dietary accommodations are available upon booking.
