This calligraphy workshop focuses on creating text related to the surrounding hot spring region of Beppu. Participants can learn how to write words such as '温泉' - 'onsen' (meaning 'hot spring') and '地獄' - 'jigoku' (meaning 'hell'), under the guidance of a friendly local instructor. As well as being able to take your one-of-a-kind masterpiece home with you, this is also a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the charm of traditional Japanese culture, learning not only technique but also Japanese calligraphy etiquette.

Itinerary

Experience the ancient art of Japanese calligraphy!
In this class, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to form stylish Japanese characters related to the local area, including the words for ‘hot spring’ and ‘hell’ - using only traditional paint brushes and paper.
Able to take their creations home with them afterwards, participants can enjoy a relaxed, beginner-friendly atmosphere under the guidance of an experienced local instructor. As well as being a great chance to learn a new skill, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet and interact with Japanese locals.
