The popular novels and TV series, Outlander has brought great attention to many iconic landmarks across Scotland. This tour visits the must-see Outlander destinations in and around the Inverness area. These include;

Culloden Battlefield – The site of the last battle of Jacobite Rising.

Clava Cairns – One of the most sacred historic sites in Scotland. Dianna Gabaldon is said to have taken inspiration from this location for the Outlander series.

Lochness and Urquhart Castle- better known to Outlander fans as the spot where Claire sees the Water Horse.

Beauly Priory – Beauly Priory is one of three priories founded in Scotland in about 1230 for monks of the Valliscaulian order.

Wardlaw Mausoleum – On the end of the original Parish Church, the mausoleum was built as a burial place for the Lovat Frasers in 1634

Sights of Interest in Inverness City Centre for all Outlander Fans. Old High Church, Abertarff House, Balnain House and Culloden House to name a few.

Stop At: Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Culloden Moor IV2 5EU Scotland

Visit Culloden Battlefield walk around the field follow the battle lines taken by The Red Coats and the Jacobites then take a look at the memorial stones for the clans.

Stop At: Clava Cairns, Balnuaran of Clava, IV2 5EU Scotland

Claire started her story here by touching the stone at Craigh na Dun and waking up 200 years in the past where she was to meet Jamie Fraser before the time of the battle of Culloden.

Clava Cairns – One of the most sacred historic sites in Scotland, the mystical Clava Cairns is a Bronze Age cemetery complex. Dianna Gabaldon is said to have taken inspiration from this location for the Outlander series.

Urquhart Castle – Urquhart Castle, better known to Outlander fans as the spot where Claire sees the Water Horse dates back to the 13th Century.

Beauly Priory – Beauly Priory is one of three priories founded in Scotland in about 1230 for monks of the Valliscaulian order.

Outlander Fans will know this is where Claire nursed Jamie back to health after the battle and where they both embarked on their voyage to France.

Stop At: Wardlaw Road Wardlaw Mausoleum, Kirkhill, Inverness IV5 7NB Scotland

Wardlaw Mausoleum – On the end of the original Parish Church, the mausoleum was built as a burial place for the Lovat Frasers in 1634. No admission fee but a donation is asked to be made.
