Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL AT QUIET VILLAGE PARK

Stop At: Lawrence's Spring, Wadi Rum Jordan
After meeting Saleem, the owner of the camp, you will start your jeep tour.

Wadi Rum desert has several little springs in the mountains with limestone tops and granite bases. Limestone absorbs rain. The water slowly descends the limestone until it hits the granite. As granite cannot hold water, the water is pushed out, forming little springs—oases of life in a further inhospitable area.

There are amazing views from this point across the red sands to Jebel Rum, then you can drive through the sand dunes on the slopes of Jebel Umm Ulaydiyya and to the Umm Fruth Rock Bridge where you see some Bedouin tents tent made of knitted camelhair, with carpets on the floor and cushions to sit on..

Sand dunes, famous movies view, The most rewarding dune is also the most visited dune of Wadi Rum. It is the dune we wrote about at the beginning of this blog. The dune is in front of Khazali canyon. The dune formed against a rock formation, which makes this one easy to climb. The views of the surrounding valleys are wonderful.

Stop At: Jebel Khazali, Wadi Rum Jordan
Jebel Khazali, a peak situated in the center of Wadi Rum Protected Area opens up in a narrow fissure of about 100 m length. Its inner walls are covered with Thamudic, Nabatean, and Islamic inscriptions, as well petroglyphs depicting humans and animals. Remarkable are the soles of feet petroglyphs, which probably had religious significance. In 1932 the French epigraphist Savignac noted the engravings in the cleft and published some of them in 1934.

The petroglyphs and inscriptions of Khazali Siq form an impressive collection being one of the major tourist attractions in Wadi Rum. At the end of the canyon, there are several man-made rock-cut basins for water collection.

Al Burj a’Sahrir, is commonly known as ‘Little Bridge’. Little Bridge is a landmark at the centre of the Red Desert sites of Wadi Rum. It enjoys views over the intersection of the major valleys in Wadi Rum known as Khor al Ajram. The rock bridge is 4 metres above the rocks below and around 7 metres above the valley floor, therefore making it relatively easy to climb for visitors.

Stop At: Lawrence's House, Wadi Rum Village, Wadi Rum Jordan
Lawrence’s House in Wadi Rum is called so because TE Lawrence reportedly slept here during his time in the desert. But actually the place has a much older history. The British general who united Arab tribes to fight against the Ottoman Empire would have sheltered in this structure around 1917. But the house itself was erected on top of a pre-existing structure built by Nabataeans more than two thousand years ago.

The best place for hiking and sandbourding.. Abu Khashaba canyon is one of the canyons in the Wadi Rum area that is worth a visit. This red and yellow sand canyon is surprisingly green with desert bushes and trees. It has the shape of an hourglass with a narrow middle section. To reach this section, you have to scramble up some rocks. The mountainsides look like artwork. Over time the beautiful shapes were formed by wind and rain. In some, you can recognise the shapes of animals and faces. A pleasant walk through the canyon takes about 45 minutes.
