On arrival at Cairo airport, your greeter will assist you through passport control and visa formalities and help you with your luggage. Then, you'll travel together from the airport by private, air-conditioned car to your hotel.

Day 2: Cairo (B)

Stop At: Step Pyramid of Djoser, Saqqara Egypt
After breakfast, you'll depart at 9 a.m. with your Egyptologist guide to the necropolis of Saqqara, home of the first pyramid ever built, the Pyramid of Djoser, as well as some spectacular tombs.

Stop At: Pyramids of Giza, Al Haram Str., Giza 12611 Egypt
Next, drive to Giza to see the Great Pyramid built by Khufu, and the two lesser pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure: Khufu's pyramid is the largest ever built. (Please note: there are additional charges to climb inside the pyramids.) Still at Giza, admire the mighty Sphinx, a half-human, half-lion statue whose face might represent King Khafre.

Day 3: Cairo - Luxor (B, L, D)

Stop At: Temple of Karnak, Karnak, Luxor Egypt
Early In the morning, transfer to Cairo airport to fly to Luxor, where you'll board your luxurious cruise ship comfortably in time for lunch at 1 p.m. In the afternoon, explore highlights of Luxor's bustling East Bank: the vast complex of Karnak Temple, and the almost equally mighty Temple of Luxor. By 5:30 p.m. you'll be back on board for afternoon tea, followed by a belly dance show at 7:30 p.m. and dinner.

Day 4: Nile Cruise Luxor- Esna (B, L, D)

Stop At: Valley of the Kings, Luxor City, Luxor 85511 Egypt
The day begins with an early breakfast before you depart for Luxor's West Bank at 7 a.m. to visit the Valley of the Kings, where Theban royalty were buried in brilliant colored tombs. (Please note there is an extra charge for admission to some tombs.) You'll drive to the vast, cliff-cut Temple of Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh who portrayed herself as a man. At 11 a.m., set sail for your next stop, Esna, where you'll enjoy lunch, afternoon tea, a welcome cocktail party, dinner, and a disco.

You'll drive to the vast, cliff-cut Temple of Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh who portrayed herself as a man. At 11 a.m., set sail for your next stop

Pass By: Esna Lock, Nile River Links Esna to Aswan, Esna 83811 Egypt
Esna is located about 33 miles (53 km) south of Luxor. Boats travelling between Luxor and Edfu must pass through the Esna Lock. It will be between 9 pm and dark or it depends on the sailing boat itinerary when the Nile cruise ship arrive but that didn’t stop us from heading to the top deck for a photo op. Two riverboats can fit into the lock at the same time. The process of filling and emptying the lock is fast (maybe 5-6 minutes); most of the time is spent waiting for your turn to enter the lock and getting the boats in position.

Day 5: Nile Cruise Esna - Edfu - Kom Ombo (B, L, D)

Stop At: Temple of Horus, Adfo, Edfu Egypt
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast any time before 10 a.m. as your ship sails the tranquil Nile to Edfu: you'll disembark at noon to explore the massive facade and echoing halls of the Temple of Edfu, dedicated to the falcon-headed god, Horus. At 2:30 p.m., enjoy a late lunch and the leisurely cruise to Kom Ombo. Afternoon tea is at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 8 p.m. After dinner, enjoy a Nile cruise classic: the galabeya party, where everyone dons traditional Egyptian galabeya gowns.

The last full day of your cruise is action-packed, beginning with a 6 a.m. wakeup call for breakfast and a 7 a.m. tour of Kom Ombo temple, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus. By 8 a.m., you're back on board for the journey to Aswan, the tranquil Nile-side city that's the capital of Nubian culture. After an early lunch, disembark at 1:30 p.m. for a tour of Aswan's highlights: the High Dam that stopped the Nile flooding, the granite quarries with their Unfinished Obelisk, and the Temple of Philae on an island in the Nile. Afternoon tea is at 5 p.m., with dinner at 7:30 p.m. After dinner, immerse in Nubian culture with a Nubian folklore show.

Your wakeup call is at 7 a.m. Then, you'll disembark at 8 a.m. and transfer to Aswan airport for your flight to Cairo, where you'll have the day at leisure to explore the city or relax in your hotel. Should you wish, an optional extra is a day trip to the rock-cut temples built by Ramses II at Abu Simbel, around 185 miles (300 kilometers) south of Aswan: transport is by domestic flight with air-conditioned private transfers and personal guide. Whichever option you choose, you'll stay overnight in Cairo.

After breakfast, you'll set out at 9 a.m. for the wonderful Egyptian Museum, home to many of the treasures discovered by archaeologists, most famously Tutankhamen's iconic death mask. (Please note there is an extra charge to enter the Royal Mummy Room.) Next, it's time to discover medieval Cairo with visits to the Coptic Christian Hanging Church, the Citadel of Saladin, and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali. Finally, you'll visit the famous Khan al-Khalili market to stock up on souvenirs.
