Description: Length: 35 - 37cm. - Weight: 320gr

The Queltehue is one of the most common birds of the Chilean territory and one of the characteristic inhabitants of the fields and wetlands, also you can be found in cities: in meadows, parks and open gardens. Sentinel perfect day and night, is always very attentive to any hint of danger, throwing away a raucous cry metallic alert not only to others of their kind, but the whole environment.

Adult: Coat color and very cryptic olive gray wings, the wings are metallic sheen.
Forehead, throat, neck and chest black.
Thin white border that surrounds the black area in the face to the throat.
In some long neck, black and fine way to lock a feather.
Horny spur on the bend of the wing pink.
Pink beak with a black tip.
Pink legs.
Iris and periocular red.

Habitat:
0-2200 m, exceptionally up to 3,000 m.

Always associated with water bodies like banks of lakes, ponds, reservoirs, vegas, also on the shoreline, on the beaches, but also on agricultural land, wet meadows and dry.
