Private Uruguayan cooking class in the Montevideo countryside

Gloria and her husband Leo are a lovely couple who live in a beautiful, sprawling home on the coast - their house is a 2-min walk from a gorgeous beach. Gloria and Leo's property is surrounded by nature and boasts lush gardens, a swimming pool, a traditional barbecue and bread oven. Gloria's love for cooking began when she cooked together with her mother and grandmother. Gloria says she is an accountant by profession but a professional pastry chef at heart. She graduated as a professional pastry chef from the Beatriz Marino Institute and is a prolific baker who bakes gorgeous cakes and pastries for friends and family. Leo is recently retired and together with Gloria enjoys hosting and sharing their Uruguayan food and culture with guests at their beautiful house that has won architectural awards. They are excited to host guests at home and entertain them with an exquisite and authentic Uruguayan meal and barbecuing experience.

Meet your hosts, Gloria and Leo, a fun-loving couple at their beautiful coastal home outside Montevideo. With a welcome drink in hand, explore the garden and enter their barbecue kitchen complete with a wood-fired parrillero and bread oven. During your Uruguayan cooking lesson, learn all about traditional Uruguayan barbecue - from how to light the fire to the ideal temperature to grill meats. As you cook together Gloria tells you about about growing up in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother and cooking with local ingredients. Learn to prepare chivitos, a Uruguayan spread of a variety of barbecued meats (pork, beef, chicken, etc.), cheeses and local vegetables served on homemade bread buns. For vegetarians, Gloria teaches how to stuff and grill vegetables, barbecue potatoes and other local vegetables, and make pizza from scratch in their pizza oven. After cooking, sit down at the table to enjoy the feast you helped prepare with Leo and Gloria over local Uruguayan wine. You are welcome to swim in their pool as you wait for your food to cook or walk two blocks to a serene and beautiful beach. Your meal concludes with a scrumptious dessert prepared by the pastry chef herself!
