Taste of Scotland Tour

Taste of Scotland Tour

Aberdeenshire has so much to offer and for those who have only one day to visit the region, this is the tour for you. Scotland is iconic for its castles, landscape, and the whisky, and we will experience all of this and more. To get an authentic sense of place, we will look at our heritage and maritime history, learn about the art of making Uisge Beatha (the water of life) and experience life in a castle.

During the tour you will also be able to sample and taste some of our local foods and drink, and why they have a special place in our heart. Learn about our local food and drink producers, their connection to the region and why that makes the region special.

Pass By: Aberdeen beach, Beach Esplanade, Aberdeen AB24 5NS Scotland

Aberdeen is "The Silver City by the Golden Sands", or so the old tourist brochures used to say. We are very lucky to have a beautiful and vibrant beach and leisure area just a stone's throw from the city centre. We will start with our day with a visit to the village of Fittie. Built in the early 1800's as a fishing community and discover the maritime heritage in Aberdeen and one of the iconic industries in our past.
With a long sandy beach and access to the beach promenade, it is an ideal location for watching the ships come into harbour, spotting the dolphins and sea birds as well as enjoy a breath of breezy North Sea air.

Stop At: Glen Garioch Distillery, Distillery Road, Oldmeldrum AB51 0ES Scotland

Scotland is synonymous with Whisky! One of the region's most historic distilleries is Glen Garioch. A visit to Glen Garioch Distillery will give you the opportunity to learn about the art off creating a perfect single malt whisky. Glen Garioch is one of only a handful of distilleries in Scotland that malt their own barley, a fascinating process to help create a unique flavour profile for this highland single malt. Once you've been through the distillery and seen how they handcraft the spirit, breathed in deeply the beautiful fragrances in the warehouses, you can participate in a guided tasting of three of their whiskies.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: East Aquhorthies Stone Circle, 1m West of Inverurie off the A96, Inverurie AB51 5JL Scotland

One of Aberdeen's largest stone circles in on our route and it is a perfect opportunity to hear about some of Scotland's ancient history. East Aquhorthies Stone Circle is a recumbent stone circle – a type of circle only found in north-east Scotland. It has a large stone set on its side and flanked by two upright stones, usually on the south or south-west part of the circle. These structures are still a bit of a mystery to us and we don't know exactly why they were constructed or why we have so many in the northeast of Scotland. There are several theories which you'll discover during this visit.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Castle Fraser Garden & Estate, Sauchen AB51 7LD Scotland

Aberdeenshire has more castles here per acre than anywhere else in Scotland! Castle Fraser is one of our favourites and we will visit the wonderful grounds with its grand trees and the walled garden which is a mixture of vegetable, herbs and ornamental plants and flowers.
The Castle is a unique experience as you'll wind your way up and down the spiral staircases, you can explore the different rooms which tell the stories of the Fraser family who inhabited the castle for hundreds of years and latterly of the Smiley family. The Fraser's of Castle Fraser have some interesting characters and you'll hear stories from different family members who lived in the castle as your tour the building.
