Day 2: Sigiriya - Kandy

Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic a tooth of the Buddha. During puja (offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open to devotees and tourists. However, you don’t actually see the tooth. It’s kept in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of diminishing size. As well as the revered main temple, the complex includes a series of smaller temples, shrines, and museums.

Kandy View Point Climb the hill by Kandy Lake to reach Kandy viewpoint and receive a view of the city that cannot be beaten. The area also has a reputation for high pickpocket activity, so keep an eye on your belongings. From the hill, you can enjoy great views over the lake and the city as a whole.

Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake in the heart of the hill city of Kandy, Sri Lanka, built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Tooth. Over the years, it was reduced in size. It is a protected lake, with fishing banned. There are many legends and folklore regarding the lake. One such is that the small island at its center was used by the king’s helm for bathing and was connected to the palace by a secret tunnel.

Day 3: Kandy - Nuwaraeliya

Nuwara Eliya is a city in the tea nation slopes of focal Sri Lanka. The normally finished Hakgala Botanical Gardens shows roses and tree plants, and asylums monkeys and blue jaybirds. Close by Seetha Amman Temple, a beautiful Hindu sanctuary is improved with strict figures.


Stop At: Ramboda Waterfall, Pussellawa Sri Lanka
Rivers, as they flow over uneven ground or down mountains, often split into tributaries or form waterfalls. Sometimes two tributaries of the same river may form twin waterfalls very close to each other as the water spills down cliffs and rocks. However, it is quite uncommon for the tributaries to combine after forming the waterfalls making a Y shape.

This unique and beautiful sight can be seen at the Pussellawa area of Nuwara Eliya, at the Ramboda Pass. The Ramboda Falls in Sri Lanka or Ramboda Ella or Puna Ella as these falls are called is created from Puna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya. It makes a twin with Dunsinane Falls which is created by Pundalu Oya, also a tributary of Kothmale River, and combines at the base to form a Y shape.

Gregory Lake was created in 1873 by the British era Governor at the time, Sir William Gregory, supposedly for the purpose of providing electricity. However, the lake was mainly used for leisure and recreation after it was built. At its peak of fame, Gregory Lake was the most prominent attraction in the area and was used as a place to relax by many visitors.

Stop At: Sita Temple, Peradeniya-Badulla-Chenkaladi Highway, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
The Sita Amman Temple dedicated to Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, situated in the hills of Nuwara Eliya, is treated with enduring devotion by Hindus as it is considered to be the only such temple in the world. It is located five kilometres along the road from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. History has it that this is the place where King Ravana held Sits imprisoned.What is interesting about the temple is the presence of footprints by the river, which is construed as being akin to Hanuman’s.

Stop At: Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple, Wevandon Hills, Ramboda 20590 Sri Lanka
It was Gurudev's Sankalpa, when he visited Sri Lanka in 1980, to set up a spiritual centre at Rambodha. Chinmaya Mission Sri Lanka, with the blessings of Gurudev, purchased 10 acres of land in 1981 at Wevanden Hills. He named the land "Rambodha". It is situated in the central part of Sri Lanka 3,200 ft above sea level, at a distance of 150 km from Colombo (3 and half hour). It was believed that Sri Hanumanji set his feet in these holy hills when he was in search of Sitaji. Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda consecrated the temple on 8th April 2001 by performing Maha Kumbhabhishekam. This grand temple is now a great monument where the 16 ft idol of Lord Hanuman is the Moola Murti. Vinayakar, Dhyaneshwar and Sri Rama with Mother Sita and Lakshmana are the parivara murtis.
