Wild Carpathians: discovering Gorgany (private tour)

Wild Carpathians: discovering Gorgany (private tour)

Gorgany is one of the wildest and most exotic parts of the Carpathians. There are no green meadows with the flocks of grazing sheep, like everywhere else. Instead, in this desolate corner, you will find stunning summits, covered with vast stone fields. This type of terrain is not found anywhere else in the Carpathian mountain system. Gorgany is a challenge for a hill walker, yet it is your choice if you’re looking for dramatic landscapes and want to escape civilization!

This tour is of moderate complexity and recommended to those who have the experience of day-long mountain walks. The average distance of the daily walks is 7-12 km. Sections of rocky terrain may increase the complexity of the path. Small-group format ensures a personalized experience. Make sure your clothes and your hiking boots (trekking shoes) are comfortable for the hike. Trekking shoes are obligatory!

Khomyak Mountain is a picturesque summit reaching 1542 m asl and a popular trekking destination. The summit enjoys impressive panoramas in all directions, including Chornohora, the highest mountain range in Ukraine. The slopes of Khomyak are covered with stunning stone fields, which is a characteristic feature of the Gorgany range.

Khomyak Meadow is one of the classic Carpathian meadows, which are used as pastures by the local people. The landscapes are sensational, with the picturesque views of sheep herds and authentic shepherds’ summer sheds.

Synyak mountain reaches 1665 m asl, with its name recalling the dark-blue color of the stony slopes, if seen from a distance. The mountain belongs to the Carpathian National Park, and together with Maly Gorgan (Small Gorgan, 1592 m asl), it forms the Synyak range. Great panorama looks across Bukovel, the biggest ski resort in Ukraine.

Bukovel is the biggest ski resort in Ukraine on the slopes of the Bukovel Mountain (920 m asl). The skiing season lasts from November to April. In 2012, Bukovel was acknowledged as one of the fastest-growing resorts in the world.
