Itinerary

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado - Chuncho Lodge

Pass By: Tambopata National Reserve, Tambopata National Reserve, Madre de Dios Region
Reception at Airport or Bus Station, then transfer to our Office, so you will be able to store any extra luggage and just bring the necessary equipment to the lodge.
During the trip on a dirt road into the heart of the rainforest, we will be able to observe clouds of butterflies, groups of birds passing over the car, and animals such as agoutis and, monkeys. Reception and accommodation at CHUNCHO LODGE.

Our guides will lead you on a trail to get to the tower and climb its steps. Finally, you reach the top. There, you’ll be able to see miles of pristine forest stretching in every direction. Because animals are most active in the canopy, you’ll have incredible chances to see wildlife macaws flying at this level as well as toucans and many colorful birds. This is an unforgettable experience, you’ll be awed by the intimate views of treetop animals, paired with the sweeping panorama of the jungle. Sunset at the tower.

Day 2: Chuncho Lodge - El Gato Creek - Canopy Tower

Pass By: Tambopata National Reserve, Tambopata National Reserve, Madre de Dios Region
During the morning will go on a boat in the Tambopata River to get a walk to the parrot clay lick on the banks of the El Gato Creek.
On the walk, you may see animals such as monkeys and other interesting plants and insects.

After lunch, you will have the opportunity to visit the 38-meter canopy tower, from there it offers unrivaled views of the Rainforest.

Our guides will lead you on a trail to get to the tower and climb its steps. Finally, you reach the top. There, you’ll be able to see miles of pristine forest stretching in every direction. Because animals are most active in the canopy, you’ll have incredible chances to see wildlife. In this unforgettable experience, you’ll be awed by the intimate views of treetop animals, paired with the sweeping panorama of the jungle.
Before sleeping, we have a chance to do night walking to try to see other animals active in the night, this activity is a very safe and a great opportunity for macro photos.

Day 3: Chuncho Lodge - Macaw Clay lick - Tambopata National Reserve

Stop At: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, Tambopata National Reserve 17500 Peru
Early wake up at 4:30 a.m. to start with our 1.5 hours journey upstream in Tambopata river to the Macaw Clay Lick “El Chuncho” We'll be able to enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries and wildlife of the riverbanks. On our arrival, we’ll set breakfast and then we will be ready to observe one of the greatest wildlife spectacles where hundreds of parrots and different species of macaws gather to eat clay like the blue and yellow, red and green, scarlet macaw, this is an unforgettable experience.
We return to the lodge to take a rest or enjoy the facilities and the surroundings of CHUNCHO LODGE, we have a hammock house near the river, and it is great to rest.
In the afternoon you are going to go on an ethnobotanical long jungle walk to learn about medicinal plants, amazon types of wood and a great opportunity to see more mammals and big trees.
By night free to rest, or the possibility of a night hike (highly recommended), this activity will be possible according to the weather conditions.

Day 4: Chuncho Lodge - Sandoval Lake

Stop At: Lago Sandoval, Tambopata National Reserve Peru
After a good breakfast, we'll back to Puerto Maldonado, then move to the main port to begin another cruise, this time our destination is the famous and beautiful Sandoval Lake. After 40 minutes by boat, we started a 3 km hike through the forest until we reach the shore of the Lake. Our Guide leads you to the body of water, the place is spectacular, with many birds, and a very good opportunity to see a lot of monkeys of several species such as the red howler monkey, brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, dusky tity, and saddle back tamarin. Also we’ll have great chance to see the Giant Otters.

We install in a partner lodge, and return to the Lake to receive one of the most beautiful sunsets of the Amazon, we’ll stay until the evening on the Lake, because in the dark night you will be able to see the black Caiman is the largest of the rainforest crocodiles, reaching more than 4 m long, and they love the Lakes. With flashlights you can observe them closely and take good photos.

Day 5: Sandoval Lake - Puerto Maldonado

Pass By: Rio Madre De Dios
Another day of waking up early but highly recommended will leave at 6:30 in the morning to visit again the Sandoval Lake, in a beautiful sunrise and awakening of many of the animals that are very active this morning. Also we’ll have great chance to see the Giant Otters.

We will paddle across the western part of the Lake, with its beautiful palm trees of more than 30 meters high, reflected in the water aguajales, this will leave you full of memories of your last day in the Amazon jungle. Return to lodge, breakfast, and transfer to the Bank of the River to subsequently be brought back to the city of Puerto Maldonado in time for your return flight.
