Walk around the area of Mitte, delve in to the myriad of backyard courtyards in this neighbourhood, get off the beaten track and experience the real Berlin, visit a farrmers market or flea market on your tour through Berlin's hip, cool mitte.

Stop At: East Side Gallery, Muehlenstrasse 3-100 Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, 14167 Berlin Germany

It has to be seen to be believed: the East Side Gallery, The 1.3-kilometer stretch of the Berlin Wall was painted by various artists after the German reunification. The former gray dividing wall, a symbol of the Iron Curtain, was turned into the longest open-air gallery in the world. With their creative wall paintings, artists transformed the relic from times of separation into a colorful monument to the freedom of expression.

When you talk about gentrification, Prenzlauer Berg springs to mind. Meander through the tastefully renovated "Gründerzeit" architecture, grab an ice cream whilst learning about street art and the alternative scene in Berlin.

Once upon a time this massive brewery complex was the biggest producer of Pilsner around, now since the fall of the Wall it has been transformed in to a huge space for community initiatives, arts and crafts stores, ballroom dancing and tango, bars and clubs and sights for evening festivites, a great place to hang out during the day or at night.

Stop At: Friedrichshain, Berlin Germany

Alternative, students and yuppies combine to create a neighbour full of diversity and creativity, see for yourselves how multi culti Berlin live together in almost perfect harmony. Learn about the students movemets and local protests, or just grab yourself a coffee or tattoo, or both! Great fun.
