Full-Day Trekking Adventure in Pre-Cordillera
Cerro Bayo is named after a particular horse breed. This mountain is part of the ridges and peaks surrounding lake Potrerillos. The general Potrerillos area is famous for its thermal SPA located in Cacheuta, and for serving as a starting point for many trekking trails.
Lake Potrerillos was created as a result of building a dam on Mendoza river, and serves as a water source for the entire city of Mendoza. It is fed by glacier and snow-melting water coming down from the higher mountains via the river. The lake has beautiful turquoise water, reflecting the blue sky above.
All of this breathtaking beauty is located less than an hour outside of the city, so you will spend minimum time traveling and maximum time immersing in nature.Itinerary
Join us climbing one of the dozens of mountaintops in the Potrerillos region, Cerro Bayo. Following a zigzag trail, you will observe the abundance of endemic plants, such as jarilla and tomillo. We will tell you of the many uses of these and other plants as we pass by them.
Often, we see condors soaring above these mountains, and while this sighting is not guaranteed, you will have a very good chance to see these magnificent birds.
You will walk up to the top of Cerro Bayo (about 2 hours), all the while enjoying the views of the neighboring ridges and of lake Potrerillos below. Once on the top, while you are resting, we'll prepare a traditional picada lunch of locally produced cold cuts and bread. For dessert, we offer alfajores or maicenas, traditional Argentinian sweets. Coffee or tea will also be available. During this time, you will have an opportunity to take pictures, walk around the peak and enjoy the spectacular views.
After a good rest, you will begin the descent. In about an hour and a half, you will reach the parking lot and we'll take you back to the city.Stop At:
