York Fire Walk

Blaze a trail and join our York Fire Walk, as we light the fuse of the city's fiery history. In the company of our expert guides, Dr Simon Rogerson and Dr Liam Herringshaw, you'll meet a far-sighted volcano-chaser, the Frenchman who saved York from burning to the ground, and discover how York Minster popped up in the Land of Fire. Oh yes, and there's a chap called Guy Fawkes. On the York Fire Walk, there are bound to be fireworks!

Stop At: Museum Gardens Museum Street, York YO1 7FR England

In York's historic Museum Gardens, we'll learn where to cremate a Roman emperor, and how (not) to fight The Battle of the Bowling Green.

Stop At: York Art Gallery, Exhibition Square, York YO1 7EW England

In Exhibition Square, outside York Art Gallery, we'll discuss slag, soldiers, and fiery artwork, before heading through Bootham Bar towards York Minster.

Stop At: St. Michael le Belfrey Church, High Petergate, York YO1 7EN England

Outside St Michael le Belfrey Church we will tell how a group of York schoolboys became embroiled in the Gunpowder Plot...

Stop At: York Minster, Minster Yard Deangate, York YO1 7HH England

In Minster Yard, near the South entrance, we'll paint a picture of the fires that have engulfed York Minster over the years.

At 23 Stonegate, we'll tell the explosive life story of one of York's most important scientists.

Outside the City Screen, by the ruins of St Martin's Church, we'll tell the story of the Frenchman who helped save York from burning to the ground.

In St Sampson's Square, we'll learn how to keep a Roman legion warm and happy.

On Coppergate, we'll discuss the fires of Viking industry, and how they were revealed by the remarkable Jorvik dig.
