3-Day Horse Trek to Mount Yasur Volcano with Accommodation

3-Day Horse Trek to Mount Yasur Volcano with Accommodation

Mount Yasur volcano is one of the most interesting natural attractions in the world. To combine a visit to Mount Yasur with the visit to a "kastom" village and riding on horseback is fantastic! The connection with Nature is complete, the relationship with the horse while you are riding for two days is awesome. The sights, the activities and the level of authenticity is unique. Tom Nangam is described as the Vanuatu horse whisperer- he is a man of "kastom" and knows the culture and customs of Tanna intimately, and he is able to share this with his riders on the tour. His horses are quiet, well trained and give the riders a sense of calm, even through intense rainforest and over the ash plains, it is a remarkable tour on horseback.

Stop At: Tanna Island, Tanna Island
We can't keep it a surprise, we take you through a very special "kastom" village where time stands still. This community still trains with bows and arrows and still adhere to the culture from thousands of years before. Grass skirts, spears, traditional dancing is what to expect and it is an amazing opportunity to see how life exists in this remote and traditional village on Tanna. We dismount, spend some time here and can purchase a shell or small carving.
This community called Emtareouk has given us permission to travel through their land.
We continue on through the jungle for our first view of Mount Yasure then descend and trek through the jungle and across the ash plains to the base of the volcano. Make sure you bring your camera. Round the base of the volcano and we arrive at Kelson's Jungle Oasis in time for late lunch.
Duration: 4 hours

Stop At: Mount Yasur, Tanna Island Vanuatu
On arriving at Jungle Oasis, we settle the horses, have lunch ourselves and then get ready to go to the entrance of Mount Yasur volcano. This active volcano is "owned" by the Entani tribe and we pay entrance fee of approx 9,800vt per person for admission. Please note cash only, Entani do not accept credit card. We need to be inside the entrance gates by around 4pm. The Entani tribe make a fabulous introduction to the history and culture of Mount Yasur and Tanna then we are invited into their 4WD vehicles for the adventurous climb up the last 1,000 metres to the rim. Over steam and brimstone we park the vehicles and walk the last 100 metres to the mouth of the volcano and watch Mother nature at her best- the fireworks and rushes of colour and smoke are unbelievable, this is raw nature at its best.
