Mbare Cultural Tour

The Mbare Cultural Tour is a celebration of the rich and diverse cultural and historical flavours in Zimbabwe. This pioneer township has been described as the heartbeat of the City of Harare. You have not really begun to understand Zimbabwe if you haven't been on this definitive tour.

The Mbare Cultural Tour is centered on exploring the heritage, culture, and people of Mbare Township and their creativity. Highlights include a brief history of the development of the township, beginning at the oldest cemetery in Harare with the graves of white settlers dating back to the 1890s, and including those who participated in the first and second world war. The tour also showcases the colonial infrastructure of hostels that housed male immigrants, dating back to the 1940s. Visitors will interact with local people in their daily activities, including meeting farmers at the biggest vegetable market in the country and travelers at the biggest bus terminus in the country. Visitors will stop at the historic Canon Patterson Stone Sculptors' Center, the indoor Women's Crafts Market, the Chinembiri Recycling Metal Art Center, enjoy contemporary township graffiti on the hostels, the Recycling Basketry Art Center, before stopping at ChillSpot - the local recording studio of contemporary Zimdancehall music. Visitors will also stop at a local shebeen, and have their fortune read by a local traditional healer. Visitors will interact with local traditional Malawian Cultural Dancers.
