Itinerary

Day 1: Airport/Negombo/Colombo – Minneriya- Sigiriya

Stop At: Minneriya National Park, Maradankadawala-Habarana-Thirukkondaiadimadu Highway, 50150 Sri Lanka
Our Guide will welcome you from Colombo Air Port or Colombo or other starting point and travel to Sigiriya.
After lunch head out on a Jeep safari at Minneriya National Park (3 hrs) and travel to the hotel, Sigiriya for two nights stay.

Minneriya National Park with 8889 hectares in extent is famous for it large population of elephants in herds of 100 to 150 roaming in the jungle and seen in the catchment area of the lake.
Elephants, about 300 wild elephants, wild buffaloes, wild boar, spotted deer, sloth bear, sambhur, leopards, crocodiles, jackals, 9 kinds of reptiles, 160 spececies of birds, 26 varieties of fishes, 78 varieties f butterflies are recorded from the Minneriya National Park.

Day 2: Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa- Sigiriya

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
Morning after breakfast, visit Lions Rock in Sigiriya, a UNESCO world heritage site adorning a palace on its peak and the 5th Century ‘Fortress in the Sky’ which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lions Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the Palace on the summit of the 600 –foot high rock. On its summit are the foundations of the Royal Palace, Water Tanks to supply water and all other buildings and at the edges of the guardhouses. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of Frescoes of 21 life-sized damsels in all the freshness and delicacy of their original colour. The Water Gardens, Fountain Garden, summerhouse, Boulder gardens and the Caves with the enclosed are should not be missed.

Afternoon, head to the ancient city of Polonaruwa – Archeological sites & ruins. This medieval city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rose to fame as the capital (10th – 12th century AD) after the decline of Anuradhapura.
Three Kings dominate the chronicles of the city and the period. The city reached a dazzling but pitifully brief zenith in the 12th century and though ravaged by invasion in the centuries that followed, much evidence remains of the old grandeur and glory.The ruins of the ancient city stand on the east shore of a large artificial lake, the Topa Wewa Lake, or Parakrama Samudraya (the Sea of Parakrama), built by King Parakramabahu I (1153-86), whose reign was Polonnaruwa‘s golden age. Within a rectangle of city walls stand palace buildings and clusters of dozens of dagobas, temples and various other religious buildings

Day 3: Sigiriya- Dambulla- Matale- Kandy

The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha. During puja (offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open to devotees and tourists.

Day 4: Kandy- UdawattaKelle – Pilimatalawa- Peradeniya- Kandy

Udawatta Forest Reseor rve Udawatta Kele, is a historic forest reserve on a hill-ridge in the city of Kandy. It is 104 hectares (257 acres) large. During the days of the Kandyan kingdom, Udawattakele was known as "Uda Wasala Watta" in Sinhalese meaning "the garden above the royal palace". The sanctuary is famous for its extensive avifauna. The reserve also contains a great variety of plant species, especially lianas, shrubs and small trees. There are several giant lianas. Many of small and medium size mammals that inhabit Sri Lanka can be seen here. Several kinds of snakes and other reptiles might be seen. Udawattakele was designated as a forest reserve in 1856, and it became a sanctuary in 1938.

Giragama Tea Factory, Pilimatalawa is one of the oldest in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka become the best land of most renowned beverage of the world. Sri Lanka silvering water falls process naturally the beauty of nature, also the most favorable factor of the climate and the best soil conditions required for the health grow of the Tea Plant . You will visit a tea plantation and observe how the plant is grown and harvested. The great circle and Memorial trees - The great circle is a grassy central area of nearly 4 acres in extent. Around the circle is a diverse array of trees planted by dignitaries, who had visited the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens.

As many as 12 different folk and traditional dances are performed within the span of one hour.

Day 5: Kandy- Peradeniya-( Train Journey to Nanu Oya) - Nuwara Eliya

Train journey from Peradeniya to Nanu Oya is considered to be one of the most beautiful train trips in the world. This train ride is 3 1/2 hours long and takes you through stunning landscapes of green and lush tea plantations and mountain views. The train trip between Peradeniya & Nanu Oya is one of the highlights of Sri Lanka. Afterwards travel to Nuwara Eliya by Car/vehicle.

Yala National Park - The park is best known for its variety of wild animals. Most notably many elephants and Leopards. Yala has been the centre stage for many Wildlife documentaries produced by popular TV networks. Yala boasts the highest population of Leopards in the world and is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka.
It is situated in the southeast region of the country, and lies in Southern Province and Uva Province. The park covers 979 square kilometres (378 sq mi) and is located about 300 kilometres (190 miles) from Colombo.
Yala was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900, and, along with Wilpattu it was one of the first two national parks in Sri Lanka, having been designated in 1938. The park is best known for its variety of wild animals. It is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan Elephants and aquatic birds.

The park is situated in the dry semi-arid climatic region and rain is received mainly during the northeast monsoon. Yala hosts a variety of ecosystems ranging from moist monsoon forests to freshwater and marine wetlands. It is one of the 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in Sri Lanka. Yala harbours 215 bird species including six endemic species of Sri Lanka. The number of mammals that has been recorded from the park is 44, and it has one of the highest leopard densities in the world.
