5 Days Selous & Mikumi National Park From Dar es Salaam / Zanzibar

Covering 45,000km² of wilderness, with grassy plains, open woodland, mountains and forests, the Selous Game Reserve (pronounced 'seloo', and named after the great explorer and hunter, Frederick Courtney Selous) is Africa's largest game reserve. It's about three times the size of South Africa's Kruger National Park, and twice the size of the Serengeti National Park. In a fitting tribute, it is also one of Tanzania's three World Heritage Sites.

Itinerary

Day 1: DAR ES SALAAM – SELOUS - BOAT SAFARI:

Stop At: Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Private pick up from Dar es airport / Hotel drive to Selous arrive for lunch at your lodge later

Sunset cruise on our comfortable river boat, looking at hippos, crocodiles and birds, and enjoying the spectacular sunset over this enormous river. This is one of Africa’s five greatest rivers, over half a mile wide where the lodge is, with panoramic views across the water to distant hills. The colors are breathtaking. Cold drinks from the bar, then dinner.

Day 2: FULL DAY GAME DRIVE SELOUS

Stop At: Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
After early breakfast depart for full day game drive in a 4x4 modified safari vehicle with a professional guide, in the Selous Game Reserve exploring the game in the surrounding areas, from your seat on an open-roofed vehicle, a comfortable and privileged journey through the wild African bush. You may expect to see any of the major African great favourite mammals, including elephant, giraffes, lions, buffalo, zebra and even the rare African Wild Dog. Picnic lunch shall be provided in the mid-day where by your guide will select a location with shade and water nearby to watch animals coming to drink - a place with a clear view all round so that no predator can creep up hidden before end of the day return to the lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 3: SELOUS - MIKUMI:

Stop At: Mikumi National Park, Mikumi National Park, Morogoro Region
Early morning walking safari into the Selous Game Reserve, usually start at 06.30am after early morning tea or coffee, accompanied by an armed ranger and it will take around 2-3 hours long. Walking safari is a fantastic way to experience more about the Selous Bushes. Although you may see wildlife during the walk, the focus is also on the habitat that the animals live in, insects, trees and birdlife after working we drive to Mikumi National Park. The Mikumi and Selous Game Reserve, the two areas forming a unique ecosystem you can’t miss to visit. The park comprises a subspecies of giraffe, that biologists consider the link between the Masai giraffe and the Somali giraffe. On arrival at Mikumi National Park start experiencing your first game drive in Mikumi National Park until later in the afternoon when you will be served picnic lunch. The landscape of Mikumi is often matched to that of the Serengeti. It consists of savannah landscape with acacia, baobab, tamarinds, and some rare palm trees.

Mikumi National Park has quite less developed infrastructure but that what makes the park even better and unique because that has helped in preserving the wilderness in its natural and untouched state for many years. Here there is also an option of doing a walking safari which is normally guided by an armed ranger if you wish but with an extra charge.

Day 4: FULL DAY GAME DRIVE-MIKUMI

Stop At: Mikumi National Park, Tanzania
After breakfast full day game drive in the park with your picnic lunch box, see the beauty of Mikumi national Park, you can expect to see many animals like Elephant, Giraffe, wild dogs, Lions, Antelopes, zebras, hippos pools, flamingos, buffalos, jackals, crocodiles many birds and other species and many more. You will drop back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: : MIKUMI- DAR ES SALAAM

Stop At: Mikumi National Park, Tanzania
After breakfast we continue with game drives around Mikumi National Park with options to do game drives or go for a walking safari until noon when we drive out of the park and head back to Dar es Salaam, or take a flight back to Zanzibar Island, Where our service ENDS please specify if you would like us to book you a flight to Zanzibar.
