Itinerary

Day 1: DAY (1)

Stop At: Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki Region, Central Macedonia
Redeem your train e-ticket (we will email it to you after your booking) for the 08:56 morning train departure from Thessaloniki’s railway station to Kalabaka and travel on your own. Embark on a scenic train ride through the Greek countryside and admire the beautiful landscapes.
Duration: 3 hours

Pass By: Kalambaka, Kalambaka, Trikala Region, Thessaly
After the scenic train ride through the beautiful Greek countryside, you will arrive at 12:03 to Kalabaka’s train station, where our tour guide will be waiting for you holding a signboard with your name. You will then board in our comfortable VIP minibus in order to transfer you to your hotel for some relaxation before your afternoon tour.

Stop At: Meteora, Meteora, Trikala Region, Thessaly
In the afternoon we will pick you up from your hotel for the “Amazing Meteora Sunset” tour. During this guided tour you will have the opportunity to see all six majestic monasteries and admire the interior of one of them. You will view some of Meteora’s most spectacular “hidden gems” like the ancient hermitages of Bandovas, the Byzantine church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary and the picturesque old district of Kalabaka.

You will also discover the “other side” of Meteora, like the truth about why the hermits settled in these imposing caves a thousand years ago and how the monks achieved the “impossible”.

Last but not least, you will enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views, capture some amazing photos and witness one of the most breathtaking sunsets you will ever see.

At the end of the tour we will transfer you back to your hotel where you can relax or take a walk to explore on your own the town of Kalabaka.

Day 2: DAY (2)

Pass By: Kalambaka, Kalambaka, Trikala Region, Thessaly
Next morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in order for you to participate in your prefered morning Sightseeeing or Hiking tour.

During this tour you will have the opportunity to admire Meteora’s spectacular landscape, further explore the rest of the monasteries and learn all about the place’s history and myths directly from a knowledgeable local.

Last but not least, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views and capture some amazing photos that you will cherish forever.

Stop At: Agios Stefanos, Kalambaka Greece
The Monastery of Saint Stephen’s is located just above the city of Kalampaka and is the most accessible monastery in Meteora, as there are no steps to reach the entrance and the access is easy through a small stone bridge.

The Monastery of Great Meteoron or Transfiguration of Christ, expresses the greatness and history of the Holy Meteora, as it is the oldest and most important monastery.

Pass By: Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada), Kalambaka Greece
The Monastery of the Holy Trinity is the third oldest monastery in Meteora and is the most difficult to reach, since the visitor has to cross a downhill path and then ascend 145 steps carved into the rock. It is said that at the time when the monks used a rope ladder and a net, they spent 70 years to carry the materials and build the monastery!

Pass By: Roussanou Monastery, Kalambaka Greece
The Roussanou Monastery, also known as Arsani, stands on top of an impressive vertical and steep cliff of Meteora, between the Monasteries of Saint Nicholas Anapafsas and Varlaam.

Pass By: Varlaam Monastery, Kalambaka Greece
The Varlaam Monastery or Monastery of All the Saints is located on an imposing rock exactly opposite of the Great Meteoron and it is the second largest monastery.

Pass By: Kalambaka, Kalambaka, Trikala Region, Thessaly
After the tour ends we will transfer you to the town of Kalabaka in order for you to relax or visit one of the many cafes or restaurants.

At 18:00 our minibus will pick you up in order to transfer you back to Kalabaka’s train station for your trip back to Thessaloniki. The train departs at 18:22 and arrives in Thessaloniki at 22:19.

As a result, the total travel and waiting time have significantly increased. For this reason, during that period bus transportation will be provided instead. The bus departs from Thessaloniki at 09:30 arriving at Meteora at 13:27. The return trip departs at 14:00 arriving at Thessaloniki at 17:45. Rest assured that all tours and activities will proceed as scheduled, as this revised itinerary enables us to maintain the full program."
