Itinerary

Day 1: Move to Jeonju and Jeonju tour

Stop At: Jeonju, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do
Jeonju is known for its traditional hanok villages and is rich in traditional Korean culture and historical resources. It has religious and cultural values such as Gyeongjeonjeon and Jeondong Cathedral church, and you can enjoy various traditional cultures such as bibimbap, making of Korean traditional paper and etc.

Stop At: Jeonju Hanok Village, Eunhaeng-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do South Korea
jeonju hanok village is the traditional village maintaining its original shape of Korea traditional house and life style. This village began forming from 1930 during Japanese colonial period, and now 800 houses

Stop At: Gyeonggijeon Shrine, 44 Taejo-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea
Gyeonggijeon Shrine was erected in 1410 and holds the portrait of King Tae-jo, the founder of the Joseon dynasty.

Stop At: Hanji Museum, 59, Palbok-ro, Deokjin-gu, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do 561-723 South Korea
Hanji Museum was founded to promote the excellence of hanji (traditional Korean paper) and present how it has impacted the lifestyle of Koreans in the past and the present. The museum has an extensive collection of 3,000 artifacts and a database documenting the long history and superiority of hanji. Hanji making experience is available.

Day 2: Move to Buyeo and tour at Buyeo

Stop At: Neungsan-ri Royal Tombs, Neungsan-ri, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea
Hundreds of Baekje tombs are scattered across Buyeo. Among them, Neungsan-ri Ancient Tombs, which are close to Buyeo, have been relatively well preserved and are fairly large in size.
The Neungsan-ri Ancient Tombs were the royal tombs of the Baekje kingdom from 538 to 660 when the capital of Baekje was Buyeo.

Stop At: Buyeo Naseong, 565 Yeomchang-ri, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do South Korea
Buyeo Naseong, also known as the Outer City Wall, was built to protect the capital of Baekje. It is 8.4 kilometers. The wall surrouned Busosanseong Fortress and extended to the city of Buyeo.The wall is one of the oldest walls and it is estimated to have been built around 538. The entire structure of Naseong Fortress features Geumgang River in the south and west sides, providing a natural double-defense system. The wall was one of the important outer defense.

Stop At: Buyeo Jeongnimsaji Temple, Dongnam-ri, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do South Korea
This granite pagoda from the late Baekje period has been designated a National Treasure. It is generally known as the "Baekje Five-story Pagoda." As one of two remaining Baekje pagodas, this stone pagoda itself is a precious and important artifact that established the lineage of Korean stone pagoda patterns. With refined and creative features, it exemplifies the beauty and elegance that were imitated in the latter-day pagodas.

Stop At: Buyeo National Museum, Geumseong-ro 5, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do South Korea
Buyeo National Museum was first established by the Buyeo Preservation Society in 1929 as a collection of relics and artifacts related to the Baekje kingdom. The best relic in the museum is the Great gilt-bronze incense burner of Baekje. The museum has four exhibition halls and an outdoor exhibit with a total of about 1,000 relics on display.

Stop At: Gungnamji Pond, 52, Gungnam-ro, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do 33165 South Korea
Gungnamji Pond (Historic Site No.135), located in Seodong Park, is Korea’s first artificial pond and was created by King Mu from the Baekje kingdom, who was in love with and eventually married Princess Seonhwa. Gungnamji, literally means a pond in the south of the royal palace in Korean.

Stop At: Busosanseong Fortress, Ssangbuk-ri, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do South Korea
Busosanseong Fortress is a mud fortress located on top of Busosan Mountain (altitude 106 meters) in the northern part of Buyeo. The fortress is estimated to have been built around AD 538 to protect Buyeo, which was once the capital of the Baekje kingdom (18 BC-AD 66). Afterwards, some parts of the fortress were reconstructed several times. Busosan Mountain is home to historic landmarks from the Baekje kingdom, including the archaeological site in Gwanbuk-ri, located just in front of Buseosanseong Fortress. Within the fortress, some of the most famous sites include Baekhwajeong Pavilion, Sajaru Pavilion, Banwollu Pavilion, and etc.. The mountain is also home to Nakhwaam Rock where, according to legend, 3,000 women of the Baekje kingdom threw themselves into the river below after the collapse of the empire.

Day 3: Gongju tour

Stop At: Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress, 280 Ungjin-ro, Ungjin-dong, Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do South Korea
Gongsanseong Fortress is a mountain castle which was established during the Baekje Period (234-678). The fortress is more than 2.6 kilometers long at 110 meters above sea level. Built using earthen fortifications during the Baekje kingdom, the fortress was strengthened during the Joseon dynasty with stones. There are many structures and relics left from the Baekje, Goryeo, and Joseon dynasties within the fortress. It is worth the visit for its historical and cultural significance, and also for the beautiful view of the Geumgang riverside and the walking trail.

Stop At: Songsan-ri Tombs and Royal Tomb of King Muryeong, 37, Wangneung-ro, Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do 32535 South Korea
UNESCO World Heritage, The Songsan-ri Tombs and Royal Tomb of King Muryeong (reign 462-523) contains representative relics of the Baekje period (234-678). The Songsan-ri Tombs contain the graves of kings from the period when Baekje's capital was Gongju, and it is believed to contain 17 such graves. Only seven graves have been discovered so far. First five tombs were made using the traditional Baekje-style design while tomb number six and the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong was made using the Chinese-influenced design. Even though many artifacts in the tombs were stolen by grave robbers, the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong wasn’t robbed until it was discovered during drainage work of other tombs in 1971. So, 4600 artifacts of Baekje kingdom era were founded.

Stop At: Magoksa Temple, 567, Unam-ri, Sagok-myeon, Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do 314-872 South Korea
Magoksa Temple is the head temple of the sixth district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism located on Taehwasan Mountain in Gongju. According to the historical records on the temple, Magoksa Temple was built in the 9th century when Seon Buddhism began to spread throughout Korea.
Magoksa Temple is characterized by a unique layout, with the northern and southern parts of the compounds divided by a stream.The northern compound contains Daegwangbojeon, which is the main hall, and there is a five-story stone pagoda with a Tibetan-style top story built in the 14th century. The southern compound features a small yard and contains Yeongsanjeon Hall and a place to practice Seon meditation. Magoksa Temple was called the Southern Art Center for having had many famous monk painters who produced Buddhist art. This temple was designated as UNESCO Cultureal Heritage "Sansa, Buddhist Mountain Monasteries in Korea".
