The Vesuvius eruption of the 79AD has been one of the most dreadful events of the Italian history. The proof of the fierce burst of the volcano has been preserved into the Pliny the Young’s letters to his friend Tacitus, since he himself has been a spectator and a survivor. And it is through his words that we can understand the awful range of this catastrophe. Starting with earthquakes two days before the actual eruption, Herculaneum citizens gathered on the seashore, waiting to be rescued – and it is there that many of them perished due to the heat. The next day the city was buried with layers of lava and ashes.
With your professional guide you will skip the long lines and enter the gates of the archaeological site. You will be narrated the story of the wealthier town settled on the Vesuvius slopes, quiet and ideal destination for the vacations of the powerful, aristocratic families of Rome. Among the main features of the site, your will visit the "Palestra" (gym), The Domus of Nettuno and Anfitrite, whose walls are decorated with spectacular frescoes, the Casa dello Scheletro, Casa dell'Alcova e Casa del Salone Nero. Furthermore, do not miss to admire the amazing decorations and marbles of the Baths.
Your guide will be happy to assist you and answer your questions and curiosities on this amazing, small town.
After the Pompeii tour enjoy a quick lunch and get ready to enjoy the walk up on the volcano slopes. You will be driven half way to the top – only walking you can reach the crater. Once into the National park of the Vesuvius you will join a group and be assigned a geology expert guide. Do not miss to reach the top - the spectacular view over Naples and the Gulf will leave you breathless.
The Pompeii tour lasts 2.5 hours and the Vesuvius tour lasts 1.5 hours.
