The amphitheater is one of the most important monuments of Durres, and it is also one of the biggest amphitheaters in the Balkan. It was built in the 2nd Country A.D, and is considered as one of the greatest constructions of Durres, it can also be compared with the other amphitheaters of antiquity, as for it used to have the same function as those. It served as a place where slave owners amused themselves watching artistic performances of fights between gladiators and beasts.
