Walking around Lefkara lake, close to Pano Lefkara village

It is a walking trip around one of the most scenic wetlands in Cyprus. The environment is scenic and sirene, dominated by high peaks around. Much of the tree vegetation in the area is made up of Calabrian vines. During spring one can enjoy wild lavender here. The route is easy and suitable for most people and for families.

Pano Lefkara village, the usual meeting place for this trip provides a cultural dimension to the experience thus enriching the activity. A great nature-cultural destination relatively close from Nicosia and from Larnaca (or from Limassol).

Itinerary

Stop At: Lefkara Reservoir, 7700, Cyprus

This is the area where we walk on this trip. The manmade lake is surrounded by high hills, and one can see an islet and various lovely formations around. The local flora is diverse and the geology is characterised by shades of red. The walking route on the dirt road can extend to at least ten kilometers, but it is the first five that provide a view towards the lake. The easy walk is on a hardly used dirt road. We walk back and forth.

Stop At: Pano Lefkara, Pano Lefkara, Larnaka District

Pano Lefkara stone-built (Lefkara lace producing) village is the meeting point of our trip, because it is close to the walking route, provides an excellent cultural attraction and has tourism amenities, including public restrooms. Here, travellers can meander in the alleys, and check Lefkaritika lace, typical of just a few villages in this area of Cyprus.
