Information about Camboriu

The Balneario Camboriu is a municipality in the metropolitan region of Foz do Rio Itajaí, in the north coast of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. According to the IBGE 2014 census, it has a population of 124 557 inhabitants, making it the 11th largest city in the state. It is the second lowest in total area.

It is the most densely populated municipality of Santa Catarina, with more than 2350 inhabitants per km2. It also has one of the highest densities of buildings in Brazil. Despite having just over 100,000 inhabitants, the structure of buildings can accommodate approximately one million people, a figure that is exceeded during the peak tourist season. He was elected as the city with the best quality of life of coastal Santa Catarina state and second behind Florianopolis.

History of Camboriu

In a cove of clear waters, a small island in the immensity of a blue and calm sea, mixed with the green of the trees arises.

The Indians were the first to enjoy the beauties of the region, as tested fossils until 3000 years found on the beach of Laranjeiras.

The colonization started from 1826 with the arrival of Azorean Baltazar Pinto Correa. Years later came the German colonization, which was attracted by the climate and fertile soil in the region forming a small village, the "Arraial do Bom Success". In 1884, Camboriú was separated from the neighboring Itajaí, taking its current name. And with the arrival of Brazilian families of Teutonic origin, he began to be one of the most beautiful places for tourism.

Balneario Camboriu was founded in 1965, within the long list of planned cities by the Brazilian government since the mid-nineteenth century, such as Belo Horizonte and Goiania.

Thanks to its history Camboriú has a very good quality of life, and its inhabitants are extremely affectionate with visitors. Tourists began an "invasion" to that heavenly place, and titled "Wonder of the South Atlantic".
