The hill of Monserrate is the best known of the eastern hills of Bogotá and has an altitude of 3152 m.

Until the middle of the 17th century it was known as Las Nieves hill. The Basilica of the Lord of Monserrate has been a place of religious pilgrimage since colonial times and is a natural, religious, gastronomic attraction of the city. You can climb the hill by the pedestrian path, by cable car or by funicular.

In 1992, the Ecological Corridor Park was created, which adopts the Physical Management Plan of the Orographic System in order to form an environmental preservation area on the edge of the city, over the rural area of ??the eastern and southeast hills. Their lands were transferred to the Enrique Olaya Herrera National Park.

Although the hill of Monserrate has lost most of the native fauna and flora due to deforestation, forest fires and introduction of exotic species, it is still possible to find Andean forest ecosystems, small mammals and about 58 bird species. It also stands out as an ideal setting for the practice of sport, due to the natural environment and air quality.

HOW TO GET TO MONSERRATE HILL
The options are funicular and cable car.
The Funicular is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 11:45 am; Saturdays until 4:30 pm and Sundays and holidays until 6:30 pm.
The climb to Cerro de Monserrate by funicular costs 6,000 COP and the other days it costs 10,000 COP.

The cable car opens Monday through Saturday from 12:00 noon to 11:30 p.m. On Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm and on Mondays on holidays there is no cable car service. And the previous one, on Sunday the ticket has a value of 6,000 COP and the other days it costs 10,000 COP.
