The botanical garden is 250,000 m in length. The two most interesting points of the park are the stove, the glass and steel greenhouse in art noveau style that has become the symbol of the city.

The botanical garden was inaugurated in 1991 with an extension of 245,000 square meters. It was promoted and created by Jaime Lerner, a young 33-year-old architect who was appointed as mayor in 1971. The garden was one of his many works to reform and improve the city's performance.
