The Glaciarium Ice Museum, in El Calafate, is a modern center dedicated to the dissemination of Patagonian ice and its glaciers. One of the few glaciological interpretation centers in the world.

The covered area is 2,500 m², consisting of a central hall and three pavilions. Two of the pavilions house the permanent exhibition that uses modern museology resources. The third pavilion is formed by an auditorium / cinema, where a 3D movie of the area is projected.

The idea of building a Glacier Interpretation Center in El Calafate was born to enrich the experience of all travelers who come to visit Los Glaciares National Park. The architecture of the building reminiscent of a glacier was in charge of the professionals Pablo Güiraldes and Santiago Cordeyro, while the contents were designed and built by the Berra-Borlasca studio. The construction took 2 years, and a hill was chosen for its location in the outskirts of El Calafate.

The contents are developed in two pavilions and use modern resources. You enter through a corridor, guided by the pleasant sound of the melting water that drips and the surprise begins. Panels describe the formation of ice, the history of explorers and scientists, illustrated by photographs of important Argentine and foreign photographers. Further on, a large model that presents the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, origin of the glaciers that we will admire during the visit to the area. Interactive screens that allow to visualize, for example the retreat of the Upsala glacier. Also an area in tribute to Francisco Pascasio Moreno, a great man; It seems that he is there to infect us with his enthusiasm for the Argentine landscapes.
