Yaxha and Topoxte Jungle Trek
This tour has unique activities. Topoxte for one is a post classic era where as Yaxha is a Classic. The adventure to arrive at these locations are quite interesting, safely boating on a freshwater lake, a memorable jungle trek and not to mention the historic information and value of these sites. You get to encounter, wildlife, experience a bit of adrenaline rush on your scenic hike and learn a way of historic life events of the ancient Mayas.
ItineraryThe adventure starts when we pick you up in Flores at the "Yo Amo Peten" sign. Followed by an approximate 90 minute drive to El Sombrero Ecolodge where we will depart the island on an approximate 20 minutes boat ride to the next island where we receive our tickets and bracelet to venture into our 45 minute Post Classic Principal Plaza; Topoxte.
We then take a 15 minutes boat ride to the north-west part of the lake where we prepare to make an adventurous 2 hrs. hike to Grupo Malher to enjoy a picnic lunch in the pristine jungle. You continue to the Lincon Causeway to _____, around and into the north acropolis, where you can take advantage to climb 2 of the 3 pyramids that makes up the triadic formation.
You then make way to the Plaza de los pajaros where you encounter a cruitam part of history stella 31 which was a portrait of one of the few known rulers.
It gets quite interesting when we continue to make way in the jungle towards the twin pyramid complex moving upward towards temple of the red hands; that gives a panoramic view of the lake.
At 3pm we drive back to Flores which is the end of our trip.
