National Reserve Pampa de Tamarugal is located in Region I, specifically in the municipality of Pozo Almonte and Huara, since it is divided into those communities, has an area of 100,650 hectares.

The endemic tree that gives its name to the reserve, is typical of the desert of northern Chile. It covers a vast area from Tana broken up Maria Elena, one of which corresponds to a large area of Central Plains in the Region of Tarapaca. Its fruit is a leathery legume, peanut-shaped, yellowish-green, 2 to 5 cm long and 7 to 10 mm in diameter. It has between 8 to 10 seeds inside, dark and small compressed and separated by partitions. Its flowers are hermaphroditic 4 to 5 mm long, yellow shortly stalked, the inflorescence is cylindrical in clusters, usually solitary on brachyblast.

Access roads:
To reach the National Reserve Pampa Tamarugal both which is located in the commune of Huara and Pozo Almonte is on Route 5 in the town of Huara is located on Route 5 between the city of Iquique and Arica, in while the other section of the Natural Reserve is located south of Iquique by the same Route 5.

Tourist Information:
For weather conditions and access to the reserve can be visited all year round, finding camping and picnic sites and toilets with drinking water. Also in the Reserve

There is a hut for accommodation of 16 persons, electricity and drinking water.
