Guiña, Guia de Fauna. RutaChile

Familia: Felidae
Subfamilia: Felidae
Genero: Leopardus
Nombre Cientifico: Guigna

La Guiña is very difficult to see, but it can be found from Coquimbo (IV region) to Aisén (XI region) including the island of Chiloé and the Guaitecas, from sea level to the limit of vegetation.

Its coat is generally yellowish or grayish brown, covered with dark and rounded spots, and blackish stripes on its body; Blonde streaks appear on the head and shoulders, and a series of black rings on the tail. There are also black winks, which are more towards the south.

It is one of the smallest felines in America, like a small domestic cat because it reaches up to 45 cm in length and 20 cm in tail.

It is one of the species threatened by habitat destruction. No information about its reproduction is available. Due to the few specimens that have been seen, it is presumed that it feeds on birds and small mammals and that it is a solitary animal.
