Information about Talca

Talca is one of the most important cities in the Maule Region. Has more than 177,429 inhabitants.

Despite having over 100,000 inhabitants, is a quiet, rustic town, which makes her an excellent city to live. The rural tourism is an activity that is largely increased due to many traditions that still maintains Chilenas.

History of Talca

Talca was a village founded in 1692 by the Governor General of the Kingdom of Chile, Lieutenant General of Cavalry Tomas Marin de Poveda. The settlement did not flourish immediately imagined who conceived it, however, was declining year by year until convertirce in a village.

However, fifty years later took urban character, to be consolidated by the visionary Governor Jose Antonio Manso de Velasco on February 17, 1742 under the name of Villa San Agustin de Talca, which was awarded the title of city of6 by royal decree in June 1796 and the name of city "very noble and fair" by 6 December the same year.
Talca araucana voice comes from the meaning "place of thunder".
